Leadership in performance – EURODUAL
The EURODUAL is a six-axle dual-mode locomotive that offers two solutions in one. It combines the high power, the efficiency and the environmental benefits of the electric drive with the flexibility and freedom to optimize transport routes, avoiding journey disruptions, of the diesel drive.
Current European trends such as the decarbonisation of transport, digitalisation, the lengthening of freight trains to 750 m and the performance of self-supervised shunting operations require the use of a new generation of versatile locomotives. Stadler’s Co’Co’ locomotives are at the avant-garde of technology and cover every need efficiently and reliably, offering rail operators numerous economic and ecological benefits.
Characteristics
Increased hauling performance
With up to 500 kN of tractive effort, the impressive high-performance locomotive enables, in many cases, the transport of heavier and longer trains with just one locomotive, resulting in a higher payload and lower traction costs.
Flexible operations
The EURODUAL enables rail freight operations on electrified lines and on non-electrified track sections. The versatile locomotive is capable of operating seamlessly across gaps in electrified networks using a powerful cutting-edge engine.
Energy efficiency
Other innovative features of the EURODUAL that lead to a reduction in energy consumption and emissions include regenerative braking for energy recovery and an efficient AC traction.
Homogenenous fleet
EURODUAL enables the reduction of the fleet size by having a single locomotive for all kind of operations. A homogeneous fleet means savings in driver training, spare parts, and maintenance.
More power for more productivity
With an electric power output of more than 6 MW and an engine output of up to 3 MW, the EURODUAL can operate the same trains, with similar performance, on electrified and non-electrified lines. In addition, the engine boosts the locomotive's power when the locomotive is running on DC lines.
Minimum downtime
High level of in-built redundancy, extended maintenance intervals and minimum routine consumables to reduce costs and downtime. In addition, in-service proven components and subsystems guarantee outstanding levels of reliability.
Cross-boarder operations
The TSI-compliant locomotive is designed to accommodate various country packages, including conventional automatic train protection systems, as well as ETCS. Depending on the countries in which it will operate, the EURODUAL is currently available in four different configurations: AT/DE, NO/SE, FR/BE and TK.
Cutting-edge engines
Compliant with the latest European emission standard (Stage V), the state-of-the-art engines not only achieve a substantial reduction in pollutant emissions but also optimize combustion, resulting in lower fuel consumption and reduced greenhouse gases emissions. They are also prepared for the use with alternative fuels as HVO.
THE BEST BOGIE TECHNOLOGY
The high performance three-axle bogie, with high adhesion and very low track forces, even lower than in some modern two-axle bogies, enables lower wear and tear on the infrastructure and reduced track access costs. It also provides the highest hauling capability on the European market.
THE BEST WORKING PLACE FOR THE DRIVERS
Safe and efficient operations start with the driver. Our drivers’ cabs, with universal central desk, are designed according to ergonomic criteria, as well as in compliance with the noise and comfort requirements as set out in the latest European standards. They are fully insulated, acoustically and thermally, and feature an enhanced heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system that optimizes cab comfort.
READY FOR THE FUTURE
With a modular design, the EURODUAL locomotives are also prepared to be retrofitted easily in the future. The carbody has been designed and calculated to be fitted with the Digital Automatic Coupler (DAC). Tedious, dangerous manual coupling is then no longer necessary. However, as very few freight trains can be equipped with automatic coupling for the time being, Stadler’s EURO series locomotives can also be fitted with hybrid couplings that offer manual and fully automated coupling options.
DIGITALISATION
Our top-of-the-range locomotives are fitted with the latest generation of vehicle control systems, including remote monitoring and diagnosis features to enable our customers to move to a predictive maintenance environment.
