Our teams work passionately day in day out to achieve the very best.

Our five principles

At Stadler, we are driven by one thing every day: to do everything we can for the best rail vehicles in the world.

To achieve this, we endeavour to do our absolute best, following five principles:

  • Achieve higher quality and go above and beyond.

  • Set new standards time and again to secure unrivalled reliability

  • Recruit the best employees and develop the best teams

  • Work with real passion, especially when the going gets tough

  • Find new ways of doing things and identify solutions

The fact that we think and act this way on our own initiative secures, characterises and accelerates our success. This way of working has taken us from humble beginnings to 16 production and component plants, five engineering centres and over 80 service locations around the world. At all locations, employees from more than 75 nations give their all every day of the week, so that:

... Our customers get the best solutions for their individual needs

...Our employees develop professionally, as our company grows

... Supplier relationships become genuine partnerships, with people trusting and supporting each other

And all employees work every day to ensure that people can travel sustainably in the best rail vehicles in the world.

That is what drives us.

Stadler is excellently positioned in the growing rail vehicle market thanks to our broad, innovative and customised product portfolio. We are firmly convinced that we can shape the future of travel with our vehicles and services. Stadler's history

The history of Stadler is anything but ordinary. What Ernst Stadler started in Zurich in 1942 has developed into a global success story. We are continuing on this path, shaping, strengthening, innovating and taking the business into the future.

2022-2024

Recent years

In 2022, Six transport companies from Germany and Austria placed a joint order for up to 504 CITYLINK vehicles. In addition to the initial order for 246 vehicles, the framework agreement also includes a maintenance contract lasting up to 32 years – the largest service contract in Stadler’s history.

History image

In 2022, the new train on the Rheineck-Walzenhausen line becomes the world’s first fully automated overland adhesion/rack-and-pinion rail vehicle. The same year, Stadler helped Rhaetian Railway (RhB) to set the world record for the longest passenger train in the world. 25 Capricorn multiple units from Stadler formed a 1.9-kilometre-long composition.

History image

Following the acquisition of two signaling companies, Stadler concentrates its signaling division in a separate division as of 2022. This allows Stadler to offer signaling solutions from a single source both on the vehicle and on the infrastructure side.

History image

In 2022 Stadler enters a new market and expands our geographical presence in the CIS states. Federal Railways of Kazakhstan (KTZ) and Stadler sign three-long term contracts for the supply of 537 sleeper and couchette coaches, including a 20-year full service contract. The contract also includes the transfer of technology from Switzerland to Kazakhstan and the acquisition of a local production facility in Astana.

The international bestseller FLIRT enters a new market with the first FLIRT contract in Lithuania in 2023. Stadler opens new rail logistics center in Berlin in Pankow in 2023. With the new building, Stadler is not only expanding its production capacity, but is also settling new activities on the factory premises with the static commissioning of the vehicles and the logistics center.

History image

In 2023, Stadler becomes the first train manufacturer in the world to supply narrow-gauge trains with hydrogen propulsion. In addition, after delivering the FLIRT H2 for American passenger transport, Stadler is now also supplying hydrogen trains to Europe for the first time.

History image

In 2024, Stadler set another world record: the FLIRT H2 travelled 2803 kilometres, the longest distance that a hydrogen-powered passenger train has ever travelled without refuelling or recharging. This achievement underlines Stadler's innovative strength and technological leadership in the field of sustainable rail transport.

History image

At Innotrans 2024, Stadler presented its world first, the RS Zero, an emission-free train that can be powered by hydrogen and/or batteries and its tailor-made rescue and fire-fighting train for ÖBB. Called also as ‘moving toolbox’, this vehicle is specially designed for rescue and maintenance operations.

History image

2024 Stadler invested in the expansion of its production capacities and opened a new centre of excellence for traction inverters in Siedlce, Poland. The DC converters produced there will be delivered to the entire Stadler Group.

Success Stories

All aboard the future: Stadler's hydrogen-powered revolution

With the delivery of the first hydrogen trains to the United States, Stadler is not only building more trains for America, known as being a car country, but is also initiating a trend reversal in the almost entirely diesel fueled American rail transport.

Training for the mobility of tomorrow

Stadler opened its new LAB training centre in Bussnang in August 2023 and was created as a measure to combat the shortage of skilled workers and marks an important step in the training of the next generation of skilled workers in Eastern Switzerland.

Photovoltaics - Electricity from solar energy

Stadler has set itself the goal of constantly reducing its energy requirements. A large proportion of CO2 emissions are caused by energy consumption during production. This also represents an effective measure to combat rising energy costs.
