Driving forward decarbonisation in freight transport – EURO9000

The EURO9000 hybrid locomotive is Stadler’s answer to the current challenges of rail freight transport. Leading the way to a more sustainable future, the Co’Co’ locomotive can be operated with up to three different drive systems: electric, diesel and/or batteries.

The EURO9000 combines energy efficiency, performance, and reliability, which results in optimum life cycle costing and long-term cost efficiency in railway operations. With a power output of up to 9 MW and a tractive force of 500 kN, the EURO9000 is currently the most powerful locomotive on the European market. It pulls heavy goods trains up steep slopes that would usually require two locomotives.

Characteristics

Green drives technologies

Its modular design allows installing up to three different drive systems (electric, diesel and/or batteries). It switches from electric operation to diesel or battery operation when there is no overhead catenary, and vice versa, without stopping.

More power

With a power output of up to 9 MW, the EURO9000 can run at the required speed on the European corridors with mixed traffic.

The TSI-compliant locomotive is designed to accommodate various country packages, including conventional automatic train protection systems, as well as ETCS. The basic configuration includes Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Italy.

Increased hauling performance

The impressive high-performance locomotive enables, in many cases, the transport of heavier and longer trains with just one locomotive, resulting in a higher payload and lower traction costs.

Image for Mininum downtime

Mininum downtime

High level of in-built redundancy, extended maintenance intervals and minimum routine consumables to reduce costs and downtime. In addition, in-service proven components and subsystems guarantee outstanding levels of reliability.

Energy efficiency

Other innovative features of the EURO9000 that lead to a reduction in energy consumption and emissions include regenerative braking for energy recovery and an efficient three-level traction system with axle-selective drive.

Flexible operations

The EURO9000 enables rail freight operations on AC and DC electrified lines and on non-electrified track sections, even on international routes with mixed traffic.

THE BEST BOGIE TECHNOLOGY

The high performance three-axle bogie, with high adhesion and very low track forces, even lower than in some modern two-axle bogies, enables lower wear and tear on the infrastructure and reduced track access costs. It also provides the highest hauling capability on the European market.

THE BEST WORKING PLACE FOR THE DRIVERS

Safe and efficient operations start with the driver. Our drivers’ cabs, with universal central desk, are designed according to ergonomic criteria, as well as in compliance with the noise and comfort requirements as set out in the latest European standards. They are fully insulated, acoustically and thermally, and feature an enhanced heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system that optimizes cab comfort.

READY FOR THE DIGITAL AUTOMATIC COUPLER (DAC)

The EURO9000 can already be fitted with the new, fully automatic coupling system. Tedious, dangerous manual coupling is then no longer necessary. However, as very few freight trains can be equipped with automatic coupling for the time being, Stadler’s EURO series locomotives can also be fitted with hybrid couplings that offer manual and fully automated coupling options.

DIGITALISATION

Among other systems, EURO9000 is fitted with remote control systems for five countries and remote monitoring and diagnosis systems.
