Stadler builds trains with customers in mind. We listen to our customers and work with them to design and build the ideal vehicle. Â For us, each project is a personal challenge.
Stadler is present at 15 production and component locations as well as over 80 service locations.
The new Waldenburg railway went into operation. As well as supplying ten TRAMLINK vehicles, Stadler was able to put its CBTC solution to use in Switzerland for the first time.
Stadler helped Rhaetian Railway (RhB) to set the world record for the longest passenger train in the world. 25 Capricorn multiple units from Stadler formed a 1.9-kilometre-long composition.
Appenzeller Bahnen ordered a new rack-and-pinion rail vehicle from Stadler. The contract included equipping the vehicle with Stadler’s CBTC (Communication-Based Train Control) solution, making the new train on the Rheineck–Walzenhausen line the world’s first fully automated overland adhesion/rack-and-pinion rail vehicle.
At InnoTrans, Stadler presented seven world premieres with innovative and sustainable drive solutions in rail transport: These include the hydrogen multiple unit FLIRT H2 for American passenger transport, the record train FLIRT Akku, the strongest hybrid locomotive EURO9000 in Europe and the next-generation TINA tram.
Stadler celebrated its 80th anniversary and opened the doors to its new plant in St. Margrethen for the first time. More than 25,000 visitors obtained a glimpse behind the scenes of the most modern production facility for rail vehicles in Europe.
Stadler won the largest tender in Swiss railway history: Swiss Federal Railways (SBB), Thurbo, RegionAlps and Stadler signed a framework agreement for up to 510 FLIRT trains. The initial call-off order was for 286 vehicles.
Six transport companies from Germany and Austria placed a joint order for up to 504 CITYLINK vehicles as part of the “VDV Tram-Train” project. In addition to the initial order for 246 vehicles, the framework agreement also includes a maintenance contract lasting up to 32 years – the largest service contract in Stadler’s history.
Following the acquisition of two signalling companies, Stadler will concentrate its signalling portfolio in a separate division as of 2022. This will allow Stadler to offer signalling solutions from a single source both on the vehicle and on the infrastructure side.
The FLIRT Akku model entered the Guinness Book of Records. The battery-operated train runs in battery-only mode on the route from Gesundbrunnen to Warnemünde in Berlin. It has a range of 224 kilometres, even in sub-zero temperatures and snowfall – a world record.
First order from New Zealand: the national railway operator KiwiRail ordered 57 mainline locomotives from Stadler. The new locomotives will be used in freight and passenger services on the South Island.
A milestone for the digitalisation of rail operations was reached: Deutsche Bahn and Stadler developed the first virtual image of a complete train. This “digital twin” processes data from the actual vehicle in real time, making it possible to prevent malfunctions or the failure of a train.
A FLIRT vehicle from Stadler crossed the Arctic Circle for the first time during test journeys for the Norwegian rail operator Norske Tog.
Stadler’s GUARDIA ETCS automatic train protection system is approved for operation for the first time. The FLIRT trains equipped with GUARDIA for the operator Koleje Mazowieckie (KM) will run in the Polish region of Mazovia.
After two years of construction, the new production plant in St. Margrethen is ready for occupancy. The new location will extend the company’s expertise in the area of double-decker multiple units. In addition to approximately 35,000 m2 of production and storage space, the plant provides 5,000 m2 of office space.
Stadler emerges as the winner of the largest tender ever issued by the Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe in order to supply up to 1,500 underground cars for use in the German capital’s underground network.
Stadler is awarded a contract for its new tram family for the first time: HEAG mobilo, the Darmstadt tram operator, orders 14 low-floor TINA trams.
Two milestones in the field of alternative drive systems: Stadler builds the first hydrogen-powered FLIRT for the American company SBCTA and signs a contract for the first time with the German company NAH.SH for the delivery of 55 FLIRT Akku.
After 18 months of construction, Stadler opens its new site in Salt Lake City on 13 May in the presence of the Governor of Utah.
On 12 April Stadler celebrates its successful IPO on the Swiss Stock Exchange.
On 18 May SBB are in Bussnang, as Stadler celebrates the roll-out of the Giruno low-floor high-speed multiple unit train with Doris Leuthard, President of the Swiss Confederation, in attendance as the guest of honour.
After only 23 month of engineering and manufacture Stadler presents the Giruno at the Innotrans fair in Berlin. Stadler is one of the biggest exhibitors in the segment of passenger transportation.
Stadler acquires Vossloh’s locomotive business in Valencia, Spain. At the same time, Stadler Australia is founded, and Stadler celebrates another milestone – its first location in the Southern Hemisphere. ´
