Girls' and Boys' Day at Stadler in Germany: Insight into technical professions
Every year since 2001, Girls' Day in Germany has offered schoolgirls an insight into technical professions, and boys have also been taking part in the day since 2011. The aim is for schoolgirls and schoolboys to get a taste of professions that are traditionally associated with the opposite sex.
On Girls' Day in Berlin on 25.04.2024, 19 girls had the opportunity to visit both the ABB training centre and the production of rail vehicles at Stadler in Berlin-Pankow. During the factory tours, they met robots and learnt how the new underground trains for Berlin are manufactured.
Our ambassadors from the girlsatec project were on hand to support the participants throughout the day. These young women have already completed a technical apprenticeship and were happy to share their experiences with the girls.
In addition to the factory tours, the girls had the chance to get active themselves. They were able to work hands-on in soldering and design their own small project, which they were able to take home with them at the end of Girls' Day.
Ten girls and boys were also given an insight into the world of development and production of train control systems at one of our signalling technology sites in Braunschweig and were even allowed to lend a hand themselves. In addition to an interesting guided tour, the soldering of a smiley and the assembly of a hot wire, they were also given the opportunity to take a seat in the dispatcher's cab.
