Electronic interlocking systems with remote control

Public transport is a central part of daily life and a popular means of transport, especially in cities. Daily operations must not only be as safe as possible, but also efficient and reliable. Thanks to Stadler’s electronic interlocking systems, all operations involving trams, light railways and depots can be secured and centrally monitored. Interaction between different techniques guarantees efficient daily operations, even at maximum capacity. Connections to higher-level systems can of course also be realised. For tram operators, our solution is a convenient way to monitor and control operations along the entire route. Short block sections allow for short headway times, secured by highly efficient signals with LED technology, axle counters or DC circuits.

Relay interlocking systems

Stadler not only has a great deal of experience in the construction and conversion of interlocking systems, but also implements new constructions, conversions and extensions of railway safety systems of all sizes according to customer requirements. Stadler is just as familiar with connections to electronic systems and the associated interfaces as it is with SPS technology for automatic functions in Domino interlocking systems.

Intermittent automatic train control

Our train control system is used to guarantee continuous safe operations. It ensures automatic compliance with high safety standards during train journeys and takes on a number of tasks to constantly provide the driver with up-to-date information. In order to achieve a forced dependency between a signalled stop command and the safe braking of the train, Stadler has developed its train control system as a magnetic or inductive train control system. The system initiates emergency braking in case of disregard of a stop signal. It is used for speed monitoring and intervenes when the maximum permitted speed is exceeded.

Communication-Based Train Control

Automated operation of branch lines is now possible. Stadler’s own CBTC (Communication-Based Train Control) solution meets challenging targets in terms of safety, headway times and increased line capacity. This innovative system enables Stadler to offer a technologically advanced solution and meet the ever-growing needs of travellers, operators and authorities. The modular design of the system gives customers individual options. Whether for greenfield projects or migration into an existing system – Stadler creates customer-specific solutions on the migration path from the current legacy technology to the desired automated target state. In addition, economic and technical complexity can be reduced in relation to classic route signalling. Stadler’s CBTC solution is lean, modular and offers open interfaces to third-party systems.

SIGNALS

Whether for use in local public transport or for shunting yards – Stadler adapts signals to individual customer requirements. There are a wide range of different designs to choose from. Single and combination concepts as well as a variety of special signals are available for traffic signal systems and individual points operating equipment. Stadler’s points position indicators and blocking signals for shunting systems also have impressively high reliability and availability levels. The portfolio includes both lattice masts and hollow masts with various sophisticated access and fall protection systems. Stadler is happy to accommodate individual customer requests during production. After thorough documented functional testing, the signals are transported by rail or truck to their respective destination.

LEVEL CROSSINGS

Level crossing systems protect individual traffic such as motor vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians from collisions with rail vehicles at crossings. Individual traffic is warned using light signals and possibly barriers, while for rail vehicles, monitoring signals indicate that the level crossing has been secured. Vacancy requests and detection signals can be sent directly from the track, for example via frequency switching points, wheel sensors or other equipment capable of receiving signals. Alternatively, data can also be received from higher-level systems such as traffic signal or electronic interlocking systems. If shunting operations via a level crossing are planned, corresponding manual switching facilities can also be provided on the track. The presence of a rail vehicle on the level crossing can be determined by common means of track vacancy detection such as wheel sensors, track barrier circuits or other devices.
