New travel comfort for passengers and staff on Deutsche Bahn's long-distance services

2116 window panes replaced and 25 km of cable laid: Deutsche Bahn and Stadler have successfully completed the modernisation of 17 electrically powered "KISS" traction units.

In 2019, Deutsche Bahn long-distance transport acquired 17 high-quality "KISS" double-decker trains to expand its intercity fleet, which had previously been in service with Austria's Westbahn since 2011. The fleet consists of nine four-car and eight six-car rail vehicles.

All 17 trains were equipped with a partner's ETCS Baseline 3 train control system. To ensure that the vehicles can also operate in multiple and mixed traction in Switzerland and Germany, part of the modernisation programme included extending the approval for passenger transport in the DACH region.

Following the modernisation work, the trains now have the DB long-distance design inside and out and offer both passengers and train crews a high level of comfort.
