Stadler and HEAG mobile to present new TINA tram to the public for the first time in Berlin

Stadler unveils its entirely newly developed TINA tram in association with HEAG mobilo , which will operate in Darmstadt as the new series ST15. At InnoTrans in Berlin, industry representatives and trade fair visitors will be able to view the new model, and in particular its innovative and unusual interior concept.

Stadler has achieved a leading market position in light rail transport. This is partly due to the very successful marketing of its newly developed TINA model. Since the launch of the freshly designed tram in 2020, it has already won four tenders. In 2020, while the test phase was still underway, HEAG mobilo from Darmstadt ordered 14 TINA trams and Baselland Transport AG requested 25. HEAG mobilo then exercised an option for a further 11 vehicles just one year after the first order.

A third order followed in June 2022, this time from Rostocker Strassenbahn AG, for 28 TINA trams. The fourth order arrived this autumn: Hallesche Verkehrs AG (HAVAG) has now ordered 56 TINA trams.

Optimised passenger compartment

The tram for HEAG mobilo presented to the public for the first time at InnoTrans in Berlin offers space for 272 passengers, with seats for 101 of them, over a length of 43 metres. Despite its metre-gauge width, the five-car unidirectional vehicle has wide, comfortable aisles – fitted with small steps instead of gentle ramps at the request of HEAG mobilo. Large panoramic windows provide a clear view and, together with the high ceiling, create a feeling of spaciousness. The tram is fully equipped with modern HVAC systems that use the natural coolant CO2. This means that they have the lowest possible ozone depletion potential as well as the lowest global warming potential. A driver assistance system with emergency brake intervention, blind spot cameras and traffic sign recognition also increases vehicle transport safety. In the TINA model for Darmstadt, the train crew can benefit from Stadler’s newly developed UNIBOARD system, which summarises all information visually at a glance and allows intuitive operation.

Continuous low floor

Great flexibility combined with a high degree of standardisation set the new TINA tram family apart. The name TINA stands for “Total Integrated Low-Floor Drive” in German. Its newly designed, patent-pending bogie can be used for a wide range of vehicle types and requirements. The TINA platform offers a solution for every tram concept – be it axle drive, independent wheels, rotating or non-rotating bogies, different track gauges or various vehicle widths. In addition to the completely continuous low floor, TINA is characterised in particular by its spaciousness, wide aisles, generous foot and leg room, panoramic windows, multifunctional panels and a new design specially adapted to the needs of passengers. The optimised passenger compartment allows unrestricted access to the seats from every vehicle door. At the customer’s request – as with the TINA model for HEAG mobilo GmbH – small steps can be fitted instead of ramps. In terms of energy efficiency, the vehicle scores points for its optimised drive system, a low vehicle weight and the optional use of waste heat from the engine.
